So Long, It's Been Good to Know Ya

The Aurora Postmaster apparently misrepresented his USPS superiors to villagers from the start of this process (see past press coverage).

Many feel he misused his position as a federal employee to advocate a P.O. relocation that had not yet undergone required reviews or obtained requisite approvals.

A notice in our P.O. now announces that he is "voluntarily taking" a position at the Union Springs Post Office as of February 18. Voluntary or no, it seems rather sudden, as his successor is not yet in place and Aurora is left with an interim postmaster. And he continues to make statements of questionable propriety on his way out of town, claiming in his notice that:
"I will not be abandoning the project to relocate the Aurora Post Office. I was in contact with Paul Senk last week and he assured me that approval has been granted by headquarters [!?] and that things are progressing, albeit at a slower pace that we would like. I anticipate that at some point in the future he will be planning another village meeting. I will do whatever is necessary to assist in getting the Aurora Post Office in to a location that this community deserves."
Let's recall that in the last official communication from the USPS Northeast Facilities Service Office -- the letter that our postmaster circulated to Pleasant's supporters before it was received by our Mayor -- Mr. Senk wrote that "the Postal Service will advertise for both an existing building to house the post office, or a site on which to construct a new post office." This has not been done yet.

Nor has the required State Environmental Quality Review been conducted.

Nor has the USPS accepted Rowland's plans for the Heary Building. This is an important step, for as Senk wrote: "if a suitable existing building cannot be located, then a new facility will be constructed."

Aurora deserves a postmaster who does the job and stays out of local politics. Let's hope we get one now.
